Cameron Park Zoo

Screech Owl
Kregg and I were talking a couple of weeks ago about needing to take the two youngest girls on some weekend trips. Josh and Ben go on all kinds of trips with their Boy Scout troop. You name it, if it is manly and has to do with the outdoors or survival skills, they have probably done it. Well, this weekend is an important Boy Scout camp out and it's additionally Joshua's first time to be a patrol leader!! That's a big deal. Combine that with the fact that this is the Challenge Camp Out and Kregg did not want to miss it. The Challenge Camp Out is where our troop challenges another troop to a grueling set of timed skills: canoeing, rappelling, orienteering, knot tying, starting a campfire, swimming, push-ups, pull-ups, etc., etc., etc.

It just so happens that Caleb, our oldest son, had asked to go to the David Crowder Fantastical Church Music Conference being held in Waco on the same weekend. So, we decided that Elizabeth, Rebekah and I would head to Waco with Caleb and explore our options for interesting adventures.

We just spent the morning at the Cameron Park Zoo and it was delightful. The weather was gorgeous, and the animals seemed to enjoy it as much as we did. May we introduce our newest furry, feathery, and slimy friends?
Mr. Meerkat

This HUGE lion was roaring at Rebekah through the glass!!!

LOOK AT THAT FACE! A face only a mother fruit bat could love!

Komodo Dragon (right), Elizabeth (left)--just to avoid any confusion.
King Louie!

Awwww! It's Verdi !

These raccoons were completely absorbed by something just outside.

White Rhinos
Very cool Asian chimes that you play with your feet!

I can't remember their names.  So we will just call them Mr. and Mrs. Bird.

White Handed Gibbons

A beautiful little Ring-Tailed Cat

A Puff Adder!!

A Sulcata Tortoise

Very cool teepee

We have lots of these in West Texas! Wiley Coyote

Galapagos Tortoises

It just snuck up behind them and, before I knew it, it was all over!

And last of all, a really cool treehouse! Even for grown-ups!

  1. I've enjoyed reading about your lovely family:) Your daughter's wedding story made me cry...especially the part where your husband gave his son-in-law your daughter's "heart". How incredibly sweet!

    Blessings,
    Michelle
