Come, Thou Fount

Come, Thou Fount of ev'ry blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me ever to adore Thee;
May I still Thy goodness prove;
While the hope of endless glory,
Fills my heart with joy and love.

  Here I raise my Ebenezer:
Hither by Thy help I've come;
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wand'ring from the fold of God;
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee.
Never let me wander from Thee,
Never leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

It almost always happens.

And this morning, it was an old hymn that opened the floodgates. Sitting there, wanting so much to sing these precious words to Him, but the emotion choked off the voice. So in silence I sang the words from my heart to His as the tears streamed down my face.

 Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wand'ring from the fold of God;
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood.

Before I could even recognize my need, He was pursuing me. Relentlessly, lovingly pursuing me.

Me! Of all people!

I, who had chosen self-destruction through my sin, saved from those consequences by the Blood that blocked that path. The Blood that erased my sin. That birthed me anew.

How could He love me? That much? He Who truly knows me and loves me still is worthy of all my praise. Miracle! Wonder! Awe! Gratitude that flows down my face as I glimpse once again the Gift.
