They're Here!

Caleb was delayed by two days leaving Uganda because of problems with the plane. He was supposed to have been home Saturday, but since he wasn't, we decided to make a day trip to see Jeremiah and Hannah. It's only about 120 miles each way, so we drove up and took them to lunch. It was a lovely day and we were happy to be able to have one more pre-birth pep rally! We did actually take two vehicles and luggage, just in case. It was a good practice run.

Caleb was to leave Uganda Sunday afternoon. When we finally found out that his plane had made it to Amsterdam and the next plane had actually left Amsterdam, we tried to book him a flight from Dallas home, but there were none. So yesterday, when there was still no sign of Samuel's arrival, I left Midland a little before 7 a.m. to drive to DFW and pick him up. I went by myself! I was alone for several hours! It was so precious. I passed the time listening to Michael Card, Third Day, Sarah Groves, etc.

Kregg had written down directions, since I get lost so easily, and all the info on the flight and terminal. I made it with no trouble and time to spare. Miraculous! It was SO wonderful to hug his neck! We stopped and got some Chick-Fil-A, then started home. He told me story after amazing story, which will be told later.

And then he slept.

We pulled into the garage about 8 p.m. I had literally just put the suburban in park when my phone rang. It was Jeremiah, our son-in-law and he said this, "Did I catch you at a bad time?" He is so adorable. I told him we had just pulled in and he said, "Your grandson is on the move. Hannah is in labor."

The midwife "just happened" to be in town, (she lives 2 hours away) so she had come by to check on them yesterday morning. At that point, Hannah was very "close," so the midwife said she would check on her later in the afternoon.

We unloaded all Caleb's gear and reloaded the stuff to head out for Samuel's arrival!

Hannah had gone into labor at 6:30. The kids and I listened to Veggie Tales and lullabies while driving to get into "the mood." Kregg and Caleb were in the truck, so they missed out. :)

Hannah had already picked out the hotel she wanted us to stay in, two minutes away, and they had one room left. It was wall-to-wall bodies, but we didn't care. We got everything unloaded and the kids settled in. Caleb was asleep before his head hit the pillow. Hannah had told us she wanted us to waited until the delivery was over before we came, but Kregg couldn't stand it. So he and I drove the two minutes and parked in the driveway to wait. Literally less than 5 minutes later, we received a picture of Hannah and Samuel.
Samuel Elliot, arrived 11:55 pm, June 13th, 9 lbs 2 oz., 21 1/2 inches long.

Uncle Caleb getting in some practice

The kids have been joking, along with our friends, that Samuel was just waiting for his Uncle Caleb to make it home from Uganda. After his delivery, the midwife said his original due date of the end of June was actually the accurate one. They had moved it up because of his measurements. It is a HUGE blessing that he came now. In two more weeks, he could have been over ten pounds, and Hannah might not have been able to deliver him naturally.

So after driving 750 miles yesterday, I get to stay put here and help Hannah for a few days. I actually typed most of this with one hand because I have precious sleeping Samuel in my arm while his mama and daddy take naps!:)

Only the Lord could have timed things so precisely. And we praise His Holy Name and give Him all the Glory for such blessings!
