Joy in the Journey

Click here to hear: The Song of a Mockingbird

There is a mockingbird sitting in a tree in our front yard singing its little heart out! We have all the windows open to let in the cool, fresh air and can hear every note. He has been at it all morning. What a joyful accompaniment to our grammar lesson!

It never ceases to amaze me how Creation lavishes His riches upon us. Everywhere we look, His Glory is revealed. Why did He bother to create thousands and thousands of different kinds of birds? Each one has its own song, feathers, nests, habits. Why? Every minute detail reveals the depth of His Love for us. He wanted us to walk through this life in jaw-dropping awe as we unwrap another of His gifts to us. How did He imagine it? He could have made a few of each thing and we would never have known the lack. Instead, He gave us more than we can ever possibly in our wildest imagination dream up. He delights in our delight! He loves it when we recognize His Gifts for what they are: a clearer revelation of Himself.

The heavens declare the glory of God;
The skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;
Night after night they display knowledge.

There is no speech or language
where their voice is not heard.

Their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.

Psalm 19:1-4

May we each actively cultivate our God-given wonder as we go about our daily tasks. May our gratitude for each perfect gift overflow onto every thought we think, every word we utter, and every action we take.

"Earth is crammed with heaven and every common bush afire with God."
Elizabeth Barrett Browning
