| My sister, Stephanie, and her husband, Tom |
My sister, Stephanie, had been sitting at the ICU bedside of her precious husband for over three weeks when I arrived in California. While visiting friends, he had suffered a massive stroke. Stephanie received a call from the San Diego hospital emergency room telling her what had happened.
Life, as she had known it, ended. But, the Lord never allows things to be stripped away without offering us Himself. And He is Enough.
She left their Kansas City home, not knowing what awaited her in California. But she was never alone. Her Abba Father held her in His Mighty arms and made a way.
She slept in a chair in his room for two and a half weeks. The Lord held her close. She pressed into Him because it is her habit. It is her way. It is The Way. She has faithfully cultivated a spirit that is quick to listen to His Spirit. She has allowed Him to discipline her heart to such a degree that she perceives His desire to make even the slightest adjustment to her thoughts, words, and actions. Because her desire is to bring Him Glory, she listens. She watches. She waits before Him. Her heart is filled with Grace: the power and desire to do His Will.
The day after I arrived, Tom was moved out of ICU. He had been there for 26 days. My sweet sister faithfully cared for him day in and day out while trying to help make hundreds of decisions about everything from his business, to transferring him to Kansas City, to which music he would like to listen to on the ipod she bought. The entire time I was there, I watched her.
The storm was raging. The waves threatened. The wind howled.
She stood firm.
Her eyes were gazing into His Face. He is Enough.
They arrived back in Kansas City this week. The Lord is bringing healing to Tom's body. He is speaking now. He is growing stronger. Even though the road of recovery stretches endlessly before them, He is Enough.
Stephanie has known that. And He is Glorified through the words of her testimony and the example she is to all of us who watch as she walks through the tempest.
Her feet stand on a firm foundation. She delights in sitting at His feet. He is enough.

That was absolutely beautiful; thank you for sharing such a strong testimony of God's glory.
ReplyDeleteOMSH- You are so sweet. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteDear Anne,
ReplyDeleteYes, I am crying, and no, they are not just words. They are a call to battle - to be this person without ceasing. My only hope is Abba. I have already revealed my weaknesses to me - not a pretty sight.
But,He is greater than my failures (past, present and future).
Oh the joy of His salvation.
There is one major problem with this blog - I will not be able to share it with anyone, without them thinking I am bragging, or else they will expect me to be this person. What were you thinking?
What do you mean? ACCOUNTABILITY!
I love you, you know,

Dearest Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteI call it like I see it!
You are funny!!
I love you, too, sweet sister!
