Snow Ice Cream

Not quite enough snow to actually cover the ground, but still exciting!

Our kids have been hoping and hoping for snow this year. Living on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, we don't receive much moisture of any kind. In fact, we have had no measurable precipitation since September.

And to put things in even more perspective, the temperature was in the 70's on Monday! But we actually got a little snow yesterday, and the low temperature last night was in the single digits. They are so excited! My husband did ask them, since there isn't really enough snow anyway, if they would mind not attempting a snow man, but to allow every drop of moisture to soak into the parched ground instead.

And since we are so unaccustomed to the cold, the kids were concerned about all their "outside pets." So the three dogs and cats were invited in, and the cats joined the kids during their handwriting lesson. Just another perk of homeschooling: cats in your lap during your studies.

(My husband has threatened to burn this t-shirt that someone gave the boys because he is a University of Texas fan! :)
It's a shame the kitty is so stressed

They did, however, harvest some snow off the trampoline so we could have some ice cream.
It was that very dry, grainy snow

Added vanilla, sugar,and milk

Voila! Ice Cream!

So last night, after dinner and after we opened our Love Notes for yesterday, they feasted on Snow Ice Cream while we played a game of Settlers of Catan. We may have to wait  another year to build our next snowman. :)
